It’s the dog days of summer. So many metaphors get tossed around about this time of year. Frying an egg on the pavement. There’s that one nickname for Atlanta. I guess some really do like it “hot”…Anyway…
Ever stumble across, into, or over a situation not of your own making? Did you back away slowly? Or were your ensnared in the tangle forever after?
Maybe you have a story quite literally about a fire. Did you and your roommates learn how to cook the wrong way? We know there’s at least one beloved Carapace member who has a woebegone tale along these lines.
Perhaps yours is a journey more of the internal variety. You may have, say, found yourself swept away in an unexpected romance, or watching one unfold between two married (not to each other) neighbors.
You might have started a rumor that snowballed, went haywire, or what else do I have to say?
Whatever your story—blazing glory or doused dreams, just something that started small and got a little out of hand—we’ll be waiting for you in the ever-so-cool (wink, yes, we know) Manuel’s Tavern on Tuesday, July 8 at 7p, as we always do on the second Tuesdays of the month. Come down early to grab some nosh and fellowship with other Carapeeps.
As a reminder, there’s never any pressure to tell a story. We adore story listeners and storytellers alike.
STORYTELLING TIPS:
Plan your last line. A lot of times in personal storytelling, we think about how we want to start a story, but we don’t always think about how we’re gonna wrap it up. Sure, a great opening line—a real zinger—is super helpful. Still, thinking in advance about how you’re going to land your story is just as important. You wouldn’t get in the car without thinking about the destination. That last line is often where you might leave the audience with an embedded thought or a “what was learned.”
FREE STORY COACHING:
We tend to be at Manuel’s by 6p on the night of the show. If you’d like a little coaching as you prepare to get up on that mic, please feel free to arrive in the hour before to talk through your story’s points for some potential ideas or help with shaping it.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
We always need volunteers to make our events run like clockwork. Roles include:
*greet people at the door & encourage sign-ups
*keep up the tradition with timing stories
*be our personal paparazzi! (take photos)
Please write back to us here if you’d like to volunteer!
