This month we'll be joined by Megan Nellen and Mary Parker from Casting from Recovery and Jimmy Harris from Unicoi Outfitters for a presentation on Casting For Recovery. Megan tells us:
Casting for Recovery is a national organization with the following mission -- to enhance the lives of survivors and thrivers of breast cancer by connecting them to each other and nature through the therapeutic sport of fly fishing and providing oncology medical and psychosocial support - at no cost to participants.
CfR is an impressively lean organization (only 13 employees at the national office) doing big work (in 2024, CfR hosted 60 retreats nationwide in all 50 states serving 800 women run by over 1800 volunteers). In north GA at Smithgall Woods, Casting for Recovery-GA hosts two retreats serving 14 participants in May (any age, any stage) and 10 participants (metastatic) in November. What's surprising is that 70% of our participants have never attended a support group, so these retreats are meeting an incredible need.
