Born in Scotland and raised in Toronto, Kari Robertson began her career at the age of fourteen. After learning to play a few chords on the guitar, she took to the folk clubs and venues in and around Yorkville Ave and the greater Toronto area. Simultaneously, she trained at the Royal Conservatory of Music for voice and theory. She then went on to the club and concert circuits of Canada, Great Britain, and Bahrain on the Persian Gulf.
Kari has appeared on many television and radio programs in Canada, including the CBC and Global. In Britain, she guested many times on BBC radio and television and has attained accomplishments too numerous to list. In the nineteen seventies, Kari released her first recording, “Away From Here”, on an independent label without any promotion. The song went on to reach number one in several outlying areas in Canada.
Kari’s vocal style has been called unique, yet reminiscent of such artists as Barbara Streisand, Enya, Loreena McKennitt, and Buffy Saint Marie. Kari has an ethereal quality in Celtic tradition, a multi-octave range and a skill for delivery that enables her to sing a wide variety of songs. Kari boasts a repertoire of over three hundred songs including folk, soft rock, old standards, musical and theatrical hits, country, Gospel and Christian contemporary. Kari also performs her own original compositions.
