This exceptional faculty group—featuring Elizabeth Allison (piano), Angela Waterman Hanson (violin), Brittany Quinn (violin), Emily Hagen (viola), and Lindsay Schlemmer (cello)—will present a captivating program of Romantic era chamber music that spans emotional depth, lyrical beauty, and virtuosic brilliance.
The evening opens with Romance, Op. 23 by Amy Beach, a lush, lyrical work that showcases Beach’s gift for heartfelt melodic writing and Romantic expression. This elegant piece sets the tone for a night of musical storytelling.
Next, the audience will be treated to Cello Sonata No. 1 in E minor, Op. 38 by Johannes Brahms, a work of profound intimacy and power. Its rich textures and expressive range highlight the unique voice of the cello and the deep interplay between performers.
The program concludes with the magnificent Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. 81 by Antonín Dvořák. Widely considered one of the greatest chamber works ever written, this piece bursts with folk-inspired melodies, vibrant rhythms, and sweeping emotional arcs—offering a joyful and dramatic finale.
