After some initial rain delays, the concerts are back on again!
Oboist Carrie Vecchione and her bassist husband Rolf Erdahl will perform a backyard summer concert at their Apple Valley home, Wednesday evening, August 6 at 7:00 pm. It's a series that was hatched between OboeBass! and their clarinetist friend Jake Meyer who lives in St. Paul. Several of the concerts will also take place in Jake's Summit Avenue backyard.
The OboeBass! concert will feature music written for them by Tim Goplerud, Julie Johnson, selections from their recent premiere of "Common Ground," by Alyssa Morris, and OboeBass! arrangements of works of Edvard Grieg.
We wanted to bring music to our communities to enjoy on a pleasant summer evening. We picked a program showcasing the fun variety of music that's been written for our oboe/bass duo, and invited musician friends to join the fun!
The Apple Valley concerts will be at the Vecchione/Erdahl home, 6857 133rd St. W., Apple Valley. It's the house with the solar panels and the oboe/bass tree statue out in front.
We're excited by the performers who have signed on to do this! Besides our OboeBass! duo, we've invited clarinetist Pat O"Keefe's Choro Borealis playing Brazilian dance music, Jake's Dad's classic MN rock group, "Pryer Commitment," and will finish up with the Twin Cities Reed Quintet for which Carrie is also a founding member. If you haven't heard a reed quintet, you're in for a treat! It's a fun, low, resonant combo of oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bass clarinet, and bassoon — one of the coolest instrumental combos out there, with some really fun repertoire.
Most of the concerts will also be performed the next day in Jake's 1106 Summit Ave. backyard in St. Paul. Jake Meyer's dad's group "Pryer Commitment" will also perform at the Summit. Ave. location
There's no charge for the concerts, though tips for the performers will be accepted. Light snacks and beverages will be available. Weather and performance updates will be posted here at Facebook.com/oboebass.
