Anouk Van Offenwert (°1997, Antwerp) lives and works in Antwerp. She obtained her Master’s degree in Painting at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp in 2021. Earlier, she studied at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) in 2019 and participated in the Drawing in Practice workshop organized by the Philippe Vandenberg Foundation in 2020.
Her work stems from a deep joy in painting itself and a continuous curiosity about the interaction between ink, handmade paint, and drawing techniques. Working often on large, unprimed canvases, she explores a personal, sensory world. Recurring sources of inspiration include the fine texture of cotton fabric, the intensity of pigment, and natural observations – from plant structures to atmospheric phenomena.
Recent works such as ‘U’ (I) and ‘U’ (II), Conversation piece (I) and (II), and i is a body explore the boundary between word and image: when does a line become a letter, and when does it escape that? When is meaning shared, and when does it remain personal?
Her practice questions how we read the world and assign meaning—through lines, symbols, and structures—while revealing how the line between the living and the animated becomes porous.
