THE UNDERPANTS

“Don’t underestimate the power of a glimpse of lingerie!” The renowned (and award-winning) comic actor and author, Steve Martin, is behind this deceivingly simple yet wickedly satirical adaptation of Carl Sternheim’s 1910 cheeky farce. This comedy of errors is set around the turn of the last century, but feels timeless, dealing with social constraints and gender politics, bourgeois morality, and the ever-elusive phenomenon of 15-minutes of fame (or infamy).
The events in “The Underpants” follow the brief notoriety that comes to Louise Maske, the pretty young wife of a petty German bureaucrat. Louise and her husband, Theo, have their conservative existence shattered by scandal when Louise’s bloomers inexplicably fall down in public. Though she pulls them up quickly, Theo fears the incident will cost him the security of his government job, and his stable, unremarkable reputation. While her husband is furious about the entire incident, he is seemingly also unaware of the sudden rush of men trying to rent their available spare room, if only to get close to his now-infamous wife- all from a pair of underpants!
Auditions will be held from 6-8pm on Monday, Jan. 12th @ King’s Theatre in Annapolis Royal
A secondary audition date will be provided to those who cannot make night 1 auditions.

Theo Maske: A burly, muscular fireplug with a buzz cut.
Louise Maske: Very pretty, mid-twenties, Theo’s wife.
Gertrude Deuter: Forty-two, and a busybody.
Frank Versati: An elegant gentleman.
Benjamin Cohen: Sickly, thin, asthmatic.
Klinglehoff: An elderly man.
The King: His Royal Highness, a walk-on role.
Rehearsal schedule: Sunday/Tuesday evenings, or Monday/Wednesday, as best suits the Cast.
