Description: Learn both samurai and ninja sword techniques. If you have ever wanted to learn how to wield a Japanese sword, this is the perfect event for you. Taught by Omar Gilani Sensei who holds certifications in several traditional Japanese family styles and martial arts. The registration fee for this event is just a staggering $35.
What you will learn: Safety, stances, drawing and sheathing methods, solo patterns, partner patterns, and history. This will consist of techniques which were once considered highly secretive throughout feudal Japan.
Audience: This workshop is for both beginners and experienced martial artists alike. This event is open to everyone ages 14+. Anyone under age 18 will require a guardian present at the time of registration on the day of the workshop. All participants will be required to sign a safety waiver. This event will be held indoors and will have a maximum capacity of 15 participants only. If the weather is favorable, this event will transition to outdoors and the limit of participants will be increased to 30.
Required Gear: A wooden sword (bokken) is the only required item. An optional but highly recommended item is a plastic scabbard (saya). Both can be purchased through Shadow Combatives. All gear purchases through Shadow Combatives must be finalized by Friday, 8/22/25, 12:00 PM. An authentic Japanese quality oak sword is $50. A plastic scabbard is $25. A martial arts gi with a belt is recommended if you have one. Participants may choose to wear anything comfortable. A white belt will be provided to those who do not have a belt as it will be needed to hold your sword. The cost of gear is separate from the registration fee.
Rules: Everyone must be respectful at all times -- no exceptions. Failure to demonstrate respect or safety may result in immediate removal from the workshop without refund.
Video: This event will not be streamed or offered on Zoom or any other teleconferencing tool. This event will only be available in-person.
