Dear all, we are happy to announce that we will be offering a special kirtan evening to honour the solstice, the return of the light on the 21st of December. It will be a sweet, still and intimate kirtan gathering during this auspicious time of the winter solstice. The longest night, the deepest moment of darkness, the still suspense before the light slowly starts returning.. In honour and celebration of the radiant sun, the light within ourselves and the wisdom of the deep dark days of winter...
We will gather in the lovely cosy attic of Svaha Yoga, right in the heart of Amsterdam. Singing together, nourishing our hearts and inner light so we keep our inner flame burning during these dark months of the year. A beautiful time to immerse in this powerful practice of kirtan.
We’re happy that our friend Robert will accompany us on tabla with his sweet and gentle rhythms.
The practice of kirtan is part of the Bhakti Yoga path, the devotional path of yoga, or ‘the yoga of the heart’.. Through singing the names of the Divine, and uniting our voices, we offer all that is present within us, and allow ourselves to surrender to the power of the heart. Kirtan is such a beautiful nourishing way of connecting to ourselves, softening our hearts and bodies, and tune in to that what is greater than us.
About…
Marieke and Stefani have been offering kirtan at Svaha Yoga for quite some years now. They met through the Sivananda Yoga Community, through their wonderful yoga teacher Susan Nicholas, many years ago. Both of them felt very drawn to the path of Bhakti Yoga straight away. Having spent time in India and in different ashrams in Europe, the Babaji tradition (of Haidhakhand Baba) has been an inspiration to both Marieke and Stefani. They have been visiting the Babaji Ashram Sada Shiva Dham (at the Veluwe) regularly over the past few years. Their style of Kirtan is mostly based on the Babaji and Svaha tradition, meaning it is a bit different than the traditional call-and-response kirtan. Their kirtan tends to be quite energetic and melodious, often with a bit of a trancy vibe. All singing together, merging our voices, singing harmonies, allowing the heart to open and soften..
We are looking forward to welcoming you on the 21st, Om Namah Shivaya!
