‘In a world full of unrest and increasing social polarization, it was a special concern of mine to set an example for peace with our music’, says pianist Martin Tingvall about PAX, the new album of his Tingvall Trio. ‘As a musician, I don’t want to watch in silence. PAX is intended to make people think.’ The album combines touching ballads such as ‘A Promise’ with rousing numbers such as ‘Cruisin’, expressing the full emotional range of the trio.
Tingvall Trio is a fixture in international jazz, thanks to the captivating music and energetic interplay. The trio from Hamburg has been around for more than twenty years. What’s particularly remarkable is that the line-up has remained unchanged: pianist and composer Martin Tingvall, who sets the tone with his clear melodies; double bassist Omar Rodriguez Calvo, who brings the unique swing of his native Cuba; and drummer Jürgen Spiegel, whose powerful grooves reveal his rock and hip-hop background.
