Rising from the Ashes: the Stories of Krantikaris

In this powerful interactive session, participants are invited to step into the shoes of a young girl trafficked into sex work. Together, we navigate the impossible choices she faces each day: whether to pay rent or feed her children, whether to risk deportation or survive another night, whether to pursue freedom or endure under crushing circumstances.
These choices are not abstract - they mirror the lived realities of millions of women worldwide. After the exercise, participants share how their perspectives on sex workers, their children, and their communities have shifted. Through these stories, and the voices of the Krantikaris, participants will be guided to reflect on profound human questions: What truly gives lifemeaning? How do we measure whether our work,our lives, and our love truly matter?

Below are the backgrounds of 2 girls who will lead the workshop:

Jayashree (24)

Jayashree entered Kranti at 12, a girl determined to dodge school. Today, she is completing her MA in Transnational Governance in Florence on a full scholarship. A proud Dalit woman, she is preparing to fight for Dalit rights and sex workers’ rights in India, armed with both lived experience and world-class education.

Ashwini (27)

Ashwini lost her mother at 16, but found a home at Kranti, where she spent six years at Kranti School before earning a full scholarship to Ashoka University. Now an artist, she is completing her MA in Photography in Paris, where her thesis focused on sex workers in Brussels. She brings both academic rigor and artistic vision to reframe marginalized stories.
