From September 15 through 27, 2025, Kyas Art Salon will host an exhibition dedicated to the multifaceted legacy of Richenel (Amsterdam 1957–2020). Known internationally for his 1980s hit Dance Around the World, Richenel combined a distinctive voice, theatrical presence, and striking aesthetic into an artistry that transcended both music and visual art.
The exhibition presents a rare selection of drawings, sketches, paintings and photographs created by or of Richenel. These works reveal a more intimate and contemplative side of the artist, exploring themes of identity and personal symbolism. Visitors are invited to experience this lesser-known part of his oeuvre in an intimate salon setting. The exhibition can be visited by appointment and concludes on Saturday, September 27, with a festive finissage (5:00–8:00 p.m.), featuring music, drinks, and a DJ set by Eddy de Clercq—one of Richenel’s long-time collaborators. A memorial wall will also be present, offering space to leave personal messages for the artist.
This program comes after a long-delayed moment of remembrance. Richenel passed away just before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, and a collective tribute was postponed. Now, his legacy will be honored through both the exhibition and a memorial concert at Paradiso on Sunday, September the 21st.
