WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
One of the greatest compliments a contact dancer can receive is: “You are light as a feather.” Another key aspect of technique is how we land on the floor. Both of these partners—the human one and the floor beneath our feet—teach us how to refine our movement and dance.
In this intensive Contact Improvisation workshop, we will explore how to move with lightness and land with precision—like a cat. We will train our entire body—muscles, bones, and joints—to master this challenging skill.
By understanding different movement pathways—both in space and within the body—we can refine our movement capabilities. We will use spiral pathways to transition between the ground and the air, discovering how to influence the "heaviness" of our body to become grounded or effortlessly lifted.
We will also explore ways to override fear reactions, transforming them into fluid, expressive movement. By the end of the workshop, participants will safely experience flying on a partner and learn how to stay secure and responsive, even in less predictable situations that might have previously triggered reflexive reactions.
This workshop is open to all levels of Contact Improvisation practitioners, from beginners to highly experienced dancers. (If you have never practiced Contact Improvisation before, we ask you to take a few classes/sessions beforehand.)

3-day workshop (shorter version of the full intensive).
