Debate & Concert: Flamenco, the Roots and the Radical

Debate led by Carlos van Tongeren and Pedro Ordóñez + concert by Raquel Kurpershoek

During this afternoon debate, an international panel, led by flamenco guitarists and researchers Carlos van Tongeren and Pedro Ordóñez, will reflect on the relationship between roots and radicality in contemporary flamenco and in relation to the development of the Dutch Flamenco Biennial, which is celebrating its tenth edition this year.

Roots and radicality are concepts of extraordinary relevance in contemporary culture. By roots, we usually mean identities, territories, and connectedness. Always understood in the plural, because there is no such thing as a single root. The word is also etymologically and conceptually related to radicality, which in turn refers to the extreme and the experimental.

Finally, singer Raquel Kurpershoek and pianist Fran Rodríguez will perform a mini-concert.
