Trailhead: Timpanooke
This is open to all, bring a friend or come alone. There is a group chat you’ll be added to if you want to come & you can coordinate carpooling. Just remember you need to go at the same pace or be willing to wait if your car ride is a different pace.
Must-Bring Essentials:
-Backpack: Comfortable with space for layers, food, and water.
-Headlamp or Flashlight: We’ll be hiking in the dark the first hour.
-Water: At least 3 liters (CamelBak + water bottles).
- Snacks & Lunch: Bring high-calorie, salty snacks (trail mix, jerky, protein bars) plus something for a longer stop at the top.
-Electrolytes: Tablets or packets like Liquid IV.
-Light jacket or windbreaker (temps at the summit can drop to 40s–50s°F even in July)
-Light gloves & hat (optional but smart—early morning temps can be chilly)
-Rain Gear: Packable rain jacket. The weather can turn fast.
-Comfortable Hiking Shoes/Boots: Well broken-in with good traction.
-Sunscreen & Sunglasses: Even if it’s cloudy, UV at higher elevations is intense.
-Trekking Poles: Highly recommended for the downhill to save knees & legs.
Optional But Smart:
• Blister pads (moleskin or Compeed)
• Ibuprofen/Tylenol
• Small first aid kit
• Kinesiology tape if you’re prone to knee or ankle pain
Other Reminders:
-We’re hiking 14+ miles with over 4,500 ft elevation gain.
-Plan to be on the trail 6–12 hours. Weather, group pace, and breaks can all shift our timeline.
-If you’ve never hiked at altitude before or done a hike this length, train ahead of time (even long walks help).
-Get your car permit & carpool. Every car needs to pay $12 & as of today (July 9th) there are 58 permits left. Recreation.gov
