Following the excitement of our recent big band evening, we return to our roots on Thursday 20th November, welcoming back the ever-popular pianist Richard Wetherall to lead a classic jazz trio alongside Peter Robinson (bass) and Roger Keay (drums).
Wetherall is one of the North West’s most respected pianists, admired for his sophisticated harmonic touch and lyrical phrasing. Over a career spanning more than twenty-five years, he has performed with many of Britain’s top jazz names, including Richard Iles, Bobby Wellins and Mark Nightingale, and has toured internationally with Casablanca Steps and Dominic Halpin and the Honey B’s, even supporting Tony Bennett with his quartet in Halifax.
A consummate musician with an ear for elegance and swing, Wetherall brings a warmth and fluency to his playing that makes every performance a joy to hear. His style blends the flowing lyricism of Bill Evans with a rhythmic drive and sparkle that keeps audiences fully engaged from the first note to the last.
He will be joined by the club’s superb rhythm team of Peter Robinson and Roger Keay, whose intuitive interplay and lightness of touch provide the perfect foundation for Wetherall’s inventive piano work. Together, the trio promise an evening of intimate, expressive jazz in the true Alsager tradition — relaxed, engaging and full of musical conversation.
Settle in for an evening of classic trio jazz — elegant melodies, subtle swing, and the kind of effortless musicianship that makes live performance so special.
