Youth 3x3 Basketball Rules
1. Teams & Court:
• Each team has 3 players on the court (plus 1 sub if available).
• We play on half a court with one hoop.
• A quick coin toss decides who starts with the ball.
2. Scoring:
• 1 point for a basket made inside the arc.
• 2 points for a basket made behind the arc (like a 3-pointer in full-court).
• 1 point for each free throw.
3. Game Length & How to Win:
• Games are 10 minutes long (running clock).
• Or, the first team to 21 points wins!
• If it’s tied at the end, we play overtime—first team to score 2 points wins.
4. Shot Clock:
• Teams have 12 seconds to take a shot once they have the ball (a coach or ref can count down if no shot clock).
5. After a Basket or Change of Possession:
• After a made basket, the other team gets the ball and starts at the top.
• If your team gets a rebound or steal, you must take the ball behind the arc before shooting.
• We always start play with a “check” at the top of the key—one player hands the ball to a defender, who gives it back to start.
6. Fouls:
• We keep track of team fouls, not individual fouls.
• First 6 fouls: other team gets the ball.
• 7–9 fouls: other team gets 2 free throws.
• 10 or more: 2 free throws and the other team keeps the ball.
• No one fouls out, but we want to keep it clean and respectful.
7. Substitutions:
• Players can sub in during dead balls, before the check ball.
• Let the ref or coach know if you’re coming in.
8. Spirit of the Game:
• Have fun, play fair, and respect each other.
• Good sportsmanship is just as important as scoring points!
