This month, we welcome two of Mparntwe's most loved acts.
Everyone who sees/hears Moongaze (who were a huge hit at last year's Top Half Folk Festival) instantly falls in love with them. Smiles wider than the Tanami, hearts bigger than the rock, actively practising the better ways they sing about in impossibly catchy songs! Moongaze is an acoustic singer-songwriter duo from Mparntwe/Alice Springs, spinning songs of love and protest with folky harmonies and poetic lyrics. Grounded in folk tradition, yet inspired by contemporary artists such as the Indigo Girls and Ani DiFranco, the multi-instrumentalists of Moongaze combine fingerstyle acoustic guitar, upright bass, violin, percussion, and soaring vocal harmonies to create heartful duets celebrating queer and trans love, the beauty of our planet and the importance of fighting for its future.
Malarkey: implies mischief maybe, and a bit too much fun.Every band has a beginning. Malarkey's was at a party, after hearing the sweet and powerful vocals of Kirryn Wilkinson. Three guitar players and a weekly cafe gig at the Watertank Cafe - when it was still in Hele Crescent. Years have passed, band members have left town, come back, and left again but Malarkey continues to soothe and enchant local listeners. In the great song bibliography of the world there is much choice. With a long list of songs that we love, and deft arrangements, sweet harmonies and genuine love of the music, Malarkey will cast a warm blanket over your soul. This month's lineup ... Ross Muir, Bill Pechey and Kirryn Wilkinson!
Meals and drinks available featuring Watertank Cafe's amazing Korean inspired dishes.
Entry from 5pm is $20 or $10 for ASFC members.
