About this Event

Michael Lundeen, a third-generation Oregonian, found his calling to make fine wine in the Willamette Valley after returning to his family’s Yamhill County farm. From the time Michael and his father planted the first Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris vines in 2001, Poverty Bend Vineyard has been both the heartbeat of his wines and the catalyst for a future to come. Michael’s original vision of handcrafting expressive and elegant wines in the Willamette Valley has since grown into a 20+ year career.

From the early days honing his skill with Pinot Noir luminaries at Willakenzie, Belle Pente, and Domaine Serene, and a stint abroad in Barolo, to his debut in 2007 as founding winemaker at Illahe Vineyards – Lundeen’s experience was developed from context and his success solidified his place in the Valley.

Growth carried Lundeen Wines into seven markets nationally, and Michael has steadily emerged as one of Oregon’s most lauded producers of Méthode Champenoise sparkling wines. Since the fittingly cold vintage of 2011, the annual production of sparkling wines has grown to 1,500 cases, and Michael still hand-disgorges every bottle à la volée.

As a Winemaker in a tight-knit community, Lundeen’s influence has been genuine. Central tenets – family, community, and environment – have guided his business and remained true over 20 years later. Upholding his commitment to the community starts with meaningful care and benefits for his employees and extends charitably to his neighbors and the neighborhood his family has called home for over 80 years.
