Voices of the Barrio: Saint of Trains

Join us at El Chante: Casa de Cultura for Voices of the Barrio's open mic. This month we will celebrate the wonderful music of Saint of Trains. This is a free monthly event. Open mic sign in list starts at 6:30 pm. Microphone opens at 7 pm. Hope to see you all there.

‘Saint of Trains’ is the notebook of Christopher Cabatbat. A 1st generation Filipino, he was born at the end of city limits in a small, white, conservative Wisconsin intersection. He was raised in 2 home-holds with 4 sisters and 2 mamas and 1 cornfield. It wasn’t until late in life that creative expression was unearthed and allowed. He found himself alone, a searching sponge at a literary conference, where a bright-eyed, unfamiliar panelist-poet stepped down from the stage and gave an impromptu slam. It stopped clocks and changed everything. It sliced all the rope-tied rules and rights of expression through words. This was Portland, Oregon, and the poet’s name was Buddy Wakefield.

Sleeved throat clots and a lidded lung-box of panicked words; moon soaked and steeping in truth... ‘Saint of Trains’ is the personal experiment of Christopher Cabatbat, begun in 2021 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
