About the event

Spring Colloquium 2025 - STEREOTYPES

Stereotypes can be found about many religions and their followers. How do they come about & how do they influence us? How do religious stereotypes affect interfaith understanding and dialogue?

Almost anyone can think of a stereotype they've heard about a religion or its followers. To some a stereotype may be humorous to others it is a serious affront to the religion and its followers. Understanding what stereotypes are and how they come about and what the true data actually is can go a long way in fostering interfaith understanding and respect for the beliefs of others. New Mexico Interfaith Dialogue will host three well-respected religious leaders to lead a discussion on religious stereotypes.

Monsignor Bennet Voorhies serves as the Archdiocese of Santa Fe and is Pastor at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church and School.

Rabbi Celia Surget serves at Congregation Albert. She was raised in Switzerland. Her family has been dedicated to Reform Judaism for several generations. Rabbi Surget has hosted many New Mexico Interfaith Dialogue events at Congregation Albert.

Dr. Aamna Nayyar is the Director of the Department of Dental Health at Santa Fe Community College. She has been active in the Diversity Committee at Santa Fe CC and has co-authored an interfaith prayer book.

Our moderator Mr. Victor Raigosa has always been deeply connected to the values of cultural diversity and history. He runs his own financial firm and frequently speak nationally on topics of finance and diversity hoping to continue fostering inclusion and financial literacy across all communities.

Join us for their presentations and a lively discussion where you can have your thoughts heard and get your questions answered about this topic.
