Shirley Chisolm: Unbought and Unbossed Documentary Screening

This August, LWVAC is hosting activities commemorating the passage of the 19th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act of 1965 that includes a screening of the documentary, Shirley Chisolm: Unbought and Unbossed. The documentary takes an in-depth look at the 1972 presidential campaign of the trailblazer Shirley Chisholm. Chisolm, a former member of the Brooklyn, NYC League of Women Voters, was the first Black woman elected to Congress and the first Black woman to run for president. When she ran for president, Chisolm declared herself to be the "candidate of the people and my presence before you symbolizes a new era in American political history."

This screening is free and is supported by a donation from LWVAC Board member, Christine Florez, in honor of her mother Juana Crowley Serrano Florez. Light refreshments will be served. Please, RSVP (maximum capacity is 35 people)
