The Judy & Barry DeRossi Quintet returns to the Acushnet Public Library to share songs from the Great American Songbook and more. Barry and Judy have played together for 58 years. Barry graduated from Berklee College of Music and has performed throughout New England and Florida. He has written and recorded songs for local commercials and the Acushnet Elementary Wild Cats theme. Judy graduated from Southeastern Massachusetts University and taught general music at St. Mary’s Elementary School in Taunton and the DeRossi Music School. She has been a vocal judge for the New England Music Festival and Competition in Boston for several years.
Saxophonist Arnie Krakowsky grew up in RI in a rich musical scene. He started playing gigs when he was 14,
Italian Wedding Bands, Dixieland, and Big bands with the older musicians. Arnie attended Berklee from 1967-71, then moved to NY to learn his craft. Arnie has three recordings out as a leader: “Where the Tenor Meets the Bone”, Seaside Records; “Is it Minor Yours”, Bleek Records featuring George Masso on Trombone; and
his recent release, “Arnie & Lew And Friends”, Bleek Records, featuring Lew Delgatto on Tenor Sax. Arnie can be seen at various music venues in New England.
Drummer Zac Casher studied and taught at Berklee College of Music and has toured and recorded with Johnny Adams, Mighty Sam McClain, Michelle Wilson, and Julien Kasper. He plays a variety of styles and performs all over the world.
Gray Sargent learned to play piano before picking up the guitar at age 11. He played with Illinois Jacquet on and off between 1975 and 1990, and began working with Dave McKenna in the early 1980s, with whom he continued to collaborate well into the 1990s. He took a position as artist-in-residence at Harvard in the academic year 1988–1989. He has performed and/or recorded with Ruby Braff, Donna Byrne, Benny Carter, Arnett Cobb, Lou Colombo, Vic Dickenson, Scott Hamilton, Peanuts Hucko, Billy Novick, Herb Pomeroy, Chuck Riggs, Buddy Tate, Frank Wess, Bob Wilber, Marshall Wood, Phil Woods, Tony Bennett, in addition to working in large orchestras under the direction of George Wein (Newport Jazz Festival All-Stars, 1989) and Dick Johnson (Artie Shaw Orchestra, 1990s). Sargent was a member of the Tony Bennett Quartet for 24 years, from 1997 to 2021, including Bennett's final performances with Lady Gaga.
