Music at Longworth with Chelys Consort of Viols and Vespri Segreti

To mark Orlando Gibbons' 400th anniversary year, Chelys Consort of Viols and Vespri Segreti will take us on a musical journey through the composer's life, from his birth in 1583 in Oxford, his employment and travels with the Chapel Royal, to his untimely death in Canterbury in 1625. Gibbons is an important figure in English musical history: he not only worked alongside some of the most influential musicians of the age, but also left a legacy that would influence future generations for decades to come. His music continues to move and inspire those who play and listen to it. Not far from Oxford – Gibbons' birthplace – Longworth provides an ideal setting for this concert of choral and instrumental music.
