The Rock-afire Explosion is a documentary that traces the strange and touching legacy of an animatronic band that once performed at the ShowBiz Pizza restaurant chain in the 1980s. It follows the story of Aaron Fechter, the inventor behind the band, and a group of devoted adult fans who continue to collect, restore, and obsess over the characters decades after the company’s collapse. Blending interviews, archival footage, and personal stories, the film explores themes of nostalgia, lost dreams, and the enduring impact of childhood experiences on adult identity.
