GENERAL INFORMATION

Title: “PAPER & WATER”

Dates: From October 29 to November 2nd, 2025

Venues: Fengxian Museum; Shenja Garden; Yanzi Academy in Shanghai, China

Between October 29th and November 2, 2025, the 28th Congress of the International Association of Hand Papermakers and Paper Artists (IAPMA) e.V. titled “PAPER & WATER”, will take place in Shanghai, China. The Congress will take place during 3 (three) to 5 (five) days.

The Congress with expected more than 100 international participants will be organized by IAPMA member Anson Ou, who is also founder of Paper+Studio and Curator of the Shanghai International Paper Art Biennale, in collaboration with INDUSTRIAL ART DESING OF SHANGHAI ASSOCIATION (IADA) as Congress Convenors. The partners have come together around the theme of “paper”, “Paper Art” and “art and culture”.

The main venues for lectures, demonstrations and workshops of IAPMA Congress 2025 will be the premises of Fengxian Museum, Yanzi Academy (Yanzi Institute), Shenija Garden.

The IAPMA Congress is an international event attended by IAPMA members and artists from all over the world. Since its foundation in 1986, IAPMA has organized Congresses in collaboration with a Convenor every two years. During a Congress, IAPMA members have the opportunity to share their knowledge of papermaking and Paper Art through lectures, demonstrations, workshops and panel discussions and exhibit their artworks in exhibitions, thus offer Paper Art and crafts in a Paper Market. For example, the IAPMA Congress was held in Burnie, Tasmania (Australia) in 2009, 2010 in Wonju (South Korea), 2018 in Sofia (Bulgaria), in 2021 in Toyota City (Japan) as an online version due to the global coronavirus pandemic and 2023 in Dresden (Germany).

During the 2025 Congress there will also Congress-related exhibitions and a paper market. The Congress will also provide a platform for a “Suitcase Exhibition” where the Congress participants can exhibit their artworks brought along in their suitcases.

After this years’ Congress there will also be a Post Congress Tour to Hangzhou.

CONCELLATION AND REFUNDS

Notification of cancellation must be sent in writing to the Paper+ Studio. Cancellations will be accepted until September 29th, 2025 with a refund of all registration fees, less 50.00 € / USD 55.00 administration fee. The registration fee is applicable and no refunds can be made for cancellations after September 29th, 2025, or for participants who do not attend. All refunds will be handled after the Congress and the Post Congress Tour took place.
