Advanced Concepts in Martial Structure & Internal Force (Fa-Jin)

This seminar explores foundational martial concepts—via Modokan (Tomiki Aikido), but applicable across disciplines. We’ll define what martial structures are and how to create them effectively, examine how to connect with an attacker’s structure to disrupt and control their stability, and explore how to generate and deliver force through our own structure (develop Fa-Jin).

Topics include:
- Intent: Defining, embodying, and applying martial intent
- Connection: Engaging the opponent’s center of balance through direct and indirect touch
- Transmission: Generating, directing, and manipulating force
- Shielding : Creating instability through inclined planes and force vectors

We’ll close with an open discussion–exploring how these principles apply across styles and situations, what insights participants gained, and how they can integrate them into their ongoing practice.
