EMU Speakers Series Presents: "The Patriot Atlantic: The Dawn of the Age of Revolution."

Professor Matthijs Tieleman will discuss the history of what he terms the Patriot Atlantic, a four-decade period between 1747 and 1787 during which Patriot movements rose to prominence and helped shape the revolutionary Atlantic world. His talk examines how revolutionary actors in North America, Ireland, and the Dutch Republic forged movements that were distinct yet interconnected, united by the overarching ideology of patriotism. By highlighting these links, Professor Tieleman shows how the Patriot revolutions of this era were deeply intertwined and foreshadowed the entangled revolutionary decades that followed.
