PolishYoungstown, in cooperation with St. Columba Cathedral, invites you to experience Gorzkie Żale (The Bitter Lamentation) — a 45-minute bilingual (Polish & English) prayer service reflecting on the Passion of Christ.
For generations, this devotion was part of Lent at Polish-founded parishes worldwide — including St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish on Youngstown’s South Side. Since its closing in 2020.
This deeply moving service includes:
• Scripture-based reflections on Christ’s suffering
• Haunting traditional hymns
• A meditative dialogue between Christ and His Blessed Mother
• Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament
Fr. Joseph Rudjak and Deacon Mark Izzo will serve as presiders.
Accompanist Luke Politsky will provide musical support
Whether you grew up with this devotion or are experiencing it for the first time, Gorzkie Żale offers a powerful opportunity for reflection, heritage, and prayer during Lent.
Come for prayer.
Come for tradition.
Come for community.
All Are Welcome.
A free-will offering will support St. Vincent de Paul and Cathedral security expenses.
