May Lake Beginner Backpacking in Yosemite National Park

All this in our 3-day, backpacking trip in Yosemite! This is a great trip for first time backpackers or those looking to learn more about how to backpack, but hikers of all experience levels will enjoy the weekend. The distances we cover are short, the scenery is great, and the experienced, professional guides of the OAC will be there to assist you if this is your first time sleeping under the stars. Get out of the crowded camping areas and enjoy the peace and beauty of the deep woods and high mountains!

We'll have plenty of time to go over some of the basics of backpacking and camping in the woods. Outdoor Adventure Club guides are professional, experienced leaders who love to share their knowledge. We’ll teach you how to filter water, use a stove, pack your backpack, and learn the secrets to staying warm and comfortable, all with an emphasis on Leave No Trace minimal impact camping. What’s so great about learning to backpack at May Lake? While it is a picturesque alpine lake, it’s also home to a High Sierra Camp. This means that even though we’ll be backpacking, we’ll still have access to running water and a flush toilet. This is an easy, gentle way to break into living outside with your house on your back!
