clipping. to eksperymentalne hiphopowe trio z Los Angeles, w którego skład wchodzą: Daveed Diggs (rap) oraz producenci William Hutson i Jonathan Snipes. Ich twórczość to eklektyczna forma muzycznej opowieści, łącząca hiphopowy flow z warstwą dźwiękową opartą na field recordingu, muzyce konkretnej, industrialu i noise. Od swojego debiutu „midcity” (2013), aż po najnowszy album „Dead Channel Sky” (2025), zespół eksploruje granice gatunku – traktując muzykę jak literacką formę, nawiązującą do science-fiction i cyberpunku.
Ich albumy jak „Splendor & Misery” (nominowany do nagrody Hugo) czy „There Existed an Addiction to Blood” ujawniają nie tylko formalne mistrzostwo, lecz też konsekwentną wizję estetyczną. Ich najnowszy album, Dead Channel Sky (2025), porzuca spójną narrację znaną z poprzednich albumów na rzecz kolażowej formy, każdy utwór to osobny eksperyment. Clipping. czerpią tu z historii elektroniki i hip-hopu, sięgając po inspiracje takimi postaciami jak Egyptian Lover, Cybotron czy Mantronix. Album stanowi zarazem hołd dla kultury klubowej lat 80. i 90., jak i próbę wpisania we współczesne podgatunki muzyki elektronicznej.
Clipping. występowali na najważniejszych festiwalach eksperymentalnych, takich jak Le Guess Who? czy Roadburn, gdzie w 2024 roku zaprezentowali dwa osobne sety: taneczny i noise’owy. Grali również w Polsce, gdzie ich występy przyciągnęły fanów muzycznej awangardy.
„Nie jesteśmy anty-rapowi. Jesteśmy częścią tej tradycji – tylko szukamy jej granic” – mówi William Hutson w jednym z wywiadów. Muzyka clipping. może przytłaczać intensywnością. Ich katalog to złożona sieć brzmień i narracji, którą najlepiej odkrywać warstwa po warstwie — albo dać się jej porwać w całości podczas jednego z ich hipnotyzujących występów na żywo.
✦ COUNTERFEIT MADISON (US)
Muzyczne alter ego Sharon Udoh, urodzonej w Nigerii, dorastającej w Stanach pianistki, wokalistki, kompozytorki i performerki. Działa na styku muzyki klasycznej, free jazzu, gospel, punka i performance’u. Na scenie potrafi być “burzą” i “ciepłą zupą” naraz.
Występuje solo i w kolaboracjach – m.in. z Clipping. (z którymi dzieli line-up Avant Art 2025), Tune-Yards, Angel Bat Dawid czy Benem Lamarem Gayem. Jej utwory oscylują między soulowym śpiewem, awangardowym jazzem, performansem i kompozycją. Fascynacja twórczością Niny Simone stała się punktem wyjścia dla szeregu projektów reinterpretujących dziedzictwo afroamerykańskiej muzyki protestu.
Udoh dorastała między dźwiękami Chopina, Rachmaninowa i Debussy’ego, grając w kościele matki i wsłuchując się w gospelowe harmonie Freda Hammonda i Donniego McClurkina. Dziś mówi, że Nina Simone stała się jej duchową przodkinią, a jej własna muzyka to rodzaj poszukiwania wolności przez performans. Jej koncerty wydarzenia, ale inspirujące się szerokim spektrum form: od rekonstrukcji Niny Simone, przez aranżacje Arethy Franklin, po kompozycje dla zespołów tanecznych i 18-osobowych orkiestr.
Tworzy także muzykę do spektakli tanecznych i działań kuratorskich, a jej artystyczna praktyka osadzona jest w pytaniach o rasę, płeć, duchowość i tożsamość imigrancką.
Nie miała jeszcze okazji wystąpić w Polsce – Avant Art Festival 2025 będzie jej pierwszą obecnością w tej części Europy.

clipping. is an experimental hip-hop trio from Los Angeles, composed of rapper Daveed Diggs and producers William Hutson and Jonathan Snipes. Their work is an eclectic form of musical storytelling, combining rapid-fire flow with soundscapes built from field recordings, musique concrète, industrial, and noise. From their debut midcity (2013) to their latest album Dead Channel Sky (2025), the group has been exploring the boundaries of genre, treating music as a literary form, often drawing from science fiction and cyberpunk.
Albums like Splendor & Misery (nominated for a Hugo Award) or There Existed an Addiction to Blood reveal not only formal mastery but also a consistent aesthetic vision. Their latest release, Dead Channel Sky (2025), abandons the cohesive narrative structures of their previous records in favor of a collage-like format, where each track is a standalone experiment. On this album, clipping. draws on the history of hip-hop and electronic music, citing influences such as Egyptian Lover, Cybotron, and Mantronix. The record serves both as a tribute to 1980s and 1990s club culture and an attempt to situate it within contemporary electronic subgenres.
clipping. has performed at major experimental festivals such as Le Guess Who? and Roadburn, where in 2024 they presented two distinct sets: one focused on danceable tracks, the other on darker, more abstract material. They have also played in Poland, where their performances attracted fans of musical avant-garde.
“We’re not anti-rap. We’re part of that tradition – we’re just testing its limits,” said William Hutson in an interview. The music of clipping. can be overwhelming in its intensity. Their catalogue is a dense network of sounds and narratives best discovered layer by layer — or experienced all at once in one of their mesmerizing live performances.
✦ COUNTERFEIT MADISON (US)
The musical alter ego of Sharon Udoh – a Nigerian-born, US-raised pianist, vocalist, composer, and performer – Counterfeit Madison operates at the intersection of classical music, free jazz, gospel, punk, and performance art. On stage, her presence can be, as some have put it, “a storm” and “a warm bowl of soup” at once.
Udoh performs solo and in collaborations – with the likes of Clipping. (with whom she shares the Avant Art 2025 lineup), Tune-Yards, Angel Bat Dawid, and Ben Lamar Gay. Her work flows between soulful vocals, avant-garde jazz, improvisation, and structured composition. Her deep connection to the music of Nina Simone has sparked a series of projects reinterpreting the legacy of African American protest music.
She grew up surrounded by the sounds of Chopin, Rachmaninoff, and Debussy, playing in her mother’s church and absorbing the harmonic language of gospel greats like Fred Hammond and Donnie McClurkin. Today, she names Nina Simone as a spiritual ancestor, and considers her own music a ritualistic search for freedom through performance. Her concerts are immersive happenings, drawing on a wide array of formats—from reimaginings of Simone’s work, to Aretha Franklin tributes, to compositions for dance companies and 18-piece orchestras.
She also composes for choreography and curatorial projects, grounding her artistic practice in questions of race, gender, spirituality, and immigrant identity.
She has not yet performed in Poland, her appearance at Avant Art Festival 2025 will be her first in this part of Europe.
