About the event

Winter Foraging Walk
WALK THE WILD FOOD TRAIL & DISCOVER FORAGING

Join us for a winter foraging walk and discover the hidden bounty of wild plants right in your local area. This guided walk takes you through a diverse range of landscapes as we search for the best seasonal wild foods that winter has to offer. Along the way, you’ll gain the confidence to identify edible plants and learn how to incorporate these ingredients into your own cooking. If we’re fortunate, we may even spot the sweet sap flowing from birch trees.

While winter may seem like a sparse season for foraging, nature still provides a variety of delicious treats for those who know where to look. Far from being scarce, woodlands, hedgerows, and meadows offer an abundance of wild foods waiting to be discovered by the forager.

This half-day ramble will take you along hedgerows, through mixed woodlands, wetlands, and across the open meadows of Park In The Past’s 120 acres of wild space. Come explore and uncover the rich possibilities of ‘food for free.’

YOUR WORKSHOP INCLUDES:

* Take a guided foraging walk through the woods, parkland and meadows
* Gain confidence in identifying a variety of edible plants including winter greens, fungi and roots
* See a demonstration of tapping birch trees for syrup
* Discover medicinal uses for seasonal wild plants
* Enjoy a wild tea taster
* Learn how to forage with a sustainable approach to the habitat
* Understand the law and your rights when foraging
