Walking With Trees tour information:
The V-shaped valley has woodland with oak and beech trees, as well as two small lakes and areas of open grassland. The valley provides a rich habitat for wildlife and is particularly noted for its birds.
As we walk around the park, James will share a wealth of fun facts about each tree species we see. This is a must for anyone with even the slightest interest in trees and will be sure to engage and inspire you!
The Walking With Trees tour will start at 10am, begining at the car park in Moss Valley Country Park, near the Childrens' playground. The walk will be slow paced and be mostly on woodland paths, including steps (not tarmac). It will last 2 hours, ending at 12pm back at the car park. Please note there are no toilet facilities at the park.
Information for enjoying a morning at the park:
Moss Valley has an industrial past, and was once a major coal mining area. In 1973 the spoil heaps were reclaimed, but amongst the tranquil woodland and meadows, evidence of the old railways can still be found.
Pathways run through the park, often following old tramways and railway lines that were once used to extract the coal and sandstone from the valley. Although the coal mines have long since gone, the small sandstone quarries still exist offering excellent wildlife habitats hidden away amongst the trees. There is a fishing lake with a circular loop, benches and a childrens' playground. Several differnt bird species can be found on the lake. We ask that if you feed the ducks to please avoid bread (as it is very nutritionally poor) and instead feed any of the following: bird seed, oats, corn, peas and sweetcorn.
The bus service and tree walk are completely free, paid for by the Local Places For Nature grant from Welsh Government to provide those without transport the opportunity to acess our country parks and provide educational talks on nature to the public. There are 14 seats available on the bus, please "purchase" a (free) ticket to confirm your place on the bus.
