Purchasing your spring seedlings from the REC enables us to donate over 10,000 seedlings to community and school gardens across Worcester, fostering learning, growth, and increased access to fresh, local produce! Help us celebrate 30 years of UGROW at this years plant sale!
In 1995, the REC launched the Urban Gardens Resources of Worcester (UGROW) program, marking a grassroots response to the growing need for access to fresh, healthy food and green space in the city. What began as an effort to reclaim five abandoned or underutilized lots has, over three decades, blossomed into a vibrant network of 81 gardens—46 community gardens and 35 school gardens—spread throughout Worcester. UGROW has empowered generations of residents to become stewards of their neighborhoods, fostering food security, environmental sustainability, and community resilience. These gardens are not just places to grow produce—they are hubs of connection, education, and cultural exchange, where neighbors build relationships, students learn about science and nutrition, and communities cultivate pride and ownership. As we celebrate UGROW’s 30th anniversary in 2025, we honor the thousands of gardeners, volunteers, and community partners who have helped transform Worcester’s urban landscape—one garden at a time.
