The public is invited to meet author Anne Marie Murphy and some of the artists who have produced the Amazing Women of Worcester coloring book on Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 11 am – 1 pm at C.C. Lowell Art Supply Co. and Custom Framing, 455 Pleasant St., Worcester, MA. No registration is required, and the event is free of charge.
As part of a yearlong celebration of the momentous first national U.S. Women's Rights Convention held in Worcester in October 1850, Worcester resident Anne Marie Murphy created a unique and interesting tribute to the amazing women she discovered in researching Worcester’s past – a coloring book to share their stories. She worked with female artists around the city, who contributed illustrations to go with the brief profiles of these remarkable women. The resulting coloring book is beautifully illustrated, and appropriate for ages 12 and up.
The Worcester artists come from backgrounds as diverse as the women they are memorializing - video game artists, tattoo artists and muralists drew a mountaineer, a battlefield phone operator, a 19th century loom manufacturer, a pioneer in mental health advocacy and more. The Museum of Worcester will be donating 100 of these coloring books to local organizations including Girls Inc., Boys and Girls Club, Worcester Youth Center, and Friendly House.
