About the event

A Beginner's Guide to Community Composting at the Indian Lake Community Garden
Want to start composting, but have no clue where to start? Come learn the basics of starting and tending to a compost pile and turn your kitchen scraps into “black gold.” In this “class”, we will cover how to get a new compost pile started, how to save your scraps and add them to the pile. We will look at how your compost will look and act in the different stages of decomposition, and cover any problems to watch for in the pile and how to correct them for the best chances of success with your compost. For our compost pile in the community garden, we will go over the different ways to tend to the pile while it is cooking including turning the pile, maintaining moisture levels and when to stop adding new materials.

Ideal audience: Adults

All programming will take place at the Indian Lake Garden, across from 3 West Boylston Drive Worcester, MA 01606.

The garden is a zero-waste site. All items or trash brought in, must be taken out of the garden.

The nearest public facility is located at Price Rite: 14 West Boylston Street. Seating at the garden can be limited, therefore if you’re able to provide your own outdoor chair or blanket to sit on, that would be appreciated.
