42Worcester is the Worcestershire 'alternative genre' monthly Spoken Word event covering gothic, horror, sci-fi and fantasy. It is held on the last Tuesday of every month— the online section opens at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.
42Worcester is a hybrid event. Our venue is the wonderful Script Haven, 104 High Street, Worcester - not far from the Cathedral - the cafe/bookshop/Spoken Word Hub in a historic building where Charles Dickens once stayed . . . If you can't get there in person, we are also on Zoom, for both audience members and performers.
The Zoom invitation / link will appear here on the day.
We issue a prompt for most months of the year and while pieces that reflect the prompt are preferred, we understand that not everyone will have a piece that ‘fits’. That doesn't matter - we want to hear what you write!
Our theme for May is 'Set Down in Stone' - interpret it as you will! Rules and laws set down by angry authorities, or mysterious inscriptions on tombs in old churches? Spooky cathedral stories in the style of MR James, an over-optimistic politician, or authoritarian regulations? Some folk might know the Biblical tale of Moses bringing down from the mountain the Ten Commandments on tablets of stone - but due to an unfortunate mis-translation, there are a lot of medieval and Renaissance artworks that show him, not crowned with light (as it should have been) but with Demonic Horns!
