Whether you are new to beekeeping, or just curious about what what's involved, join us this November for an informative session with local beekeeper Glenn Locke. With the varroa mite now endemic in the area, beekeepers will need to adapt their beekeeping practices to manage this new pest and keep their bees healthy and thriving.
In this session we cover the basics of beekeeping with an emphasis on seasonal management focusing on summer when the bees are busy bringing in honey. We will look at hive health; requeening; summer flowers and the summer dearth; when to harvest; weather impacts; pests and diseases; and maintenance and upgrade tasks to get done.
A light afternoon tea will be provided that will include an opportunity to taste a variety of local honeys.
Local beekeeper, Glenn Locke will be presenting this workshop. Glenn is a commercial beekeeper operating a number of apiaries in the mid-north coast.
Be Bee Safe - Flat covered footwear and a appropriate clothing for the weather. Remember, don't wear strong perfumes or scents. Bee suits are not required for this event.
