Join us for our first skill-share circle!
Daniella is facilitating this first circle. We will be exploring the eco-dyeing technique 'Tatakizome', also known as 'flower pounding'. Using a hammer we will gently pound fresh flowers onto fabric, creating an imprint of their colours. You will be supplied with a square of fabric for you to try this technique on. If you have experience with eco-dyeing, you are welcome to bring along your own fabric (pre-scoured and mordanted) to play with.
For this activity, please bring:
❊ a hammer or mallet (if you don't have one, we will have a couple extra to share)
❊ Freshly picked flowers, herbs, or leafy plants to share with the group - see below for some examples of plants that work well with this technique
❊ (if you have) two pieces of scrap fabric that you don't mind getting stained - these fabrics will go under and on top of the fabric that you are pounding onto (to protect it from the ground and the hammer)
Example of plants to bring:
Calendula
Marigold
Nasturtiums
Cosmos
Violets
Daisies
Ferns
Sage leaves
Lemon Balm leaves
**Feel free to pick plants not on this list and see how they turn out- its all an experiment anyway!
