Discover Northumbria’s Early Medieval Heartland
This summer, explore one of the most significant early medieval sites in Britain with a rare opportunity to visit an active archaeological excavation at Yeavering – the site of the royal summer palace of the Northumbrian kings and queens of the 7th century.
Led by Durham University in partnership with The Gefrin Trust, this four-week dig offers exclusive insights into the past through guided site tours, engaging talks, and the chance to meet the archaeologists uncovering the secrets of this remarkable landscape.
An optional orientation talk will start at Ad Gefrin in the Great Hall and Museum at 1 pm, included in the ticket entry price (£10). Tickets are valid for seven days. Tours of the dig* commence at 3 pm each day at the car park at Yeavering (What3Words location below). Donations to the Gefrin Trust are welcome, with all proceeds supporting future research and conservation of the site.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast or simply curious about the world beneath your feet, this is a unique chance to witness history as it’s uncovered.
