Gains Law and Yeavering Bell (13mi, 2400ft, moderate)

From Wooler Common we will head up our first climb of the day Humbleton Hill, the site of the 1402 Battle of Homildon Hill and location of an enclosed Iron Age settlement. We will then descend to follow St Cuthberts Way taking a short diversion to the summit of Gains Law, before joining the track heading down Akeld Burn. We will climb Akeld Hill continuing on to White Law and Yeavering Bell summit which has the remains of the largest Iron Age hillfort in the region. From here we will rejoin St Cuthberts Way and take a diversion to Tom Tallon’s crag before descending to follow the road back to the car park.
