Class Description:
This eco-dyeing workshop with natural dyer and textile artist Linda Jackson is suitable for both beginners and those with some natural dyeing or eco printing experience.
Eco-dyeing is using flowers, plants, and kitchen scraps to create colorful
dyes to turn natural fabrics into new and beautifully colorful pieces. Linda will share her methods and tips to help you create beautiful eco prints.
In this workshop, we will learn to make a dye pot with flowers and plants. We will dye natural fabrics in prepared dye pots and witness the magic of natural color. We’ll learn the what and how to prepare fabric for natural dyeing in order to get colorfast results. You will leave with fabric made new with natural dye. Come join the fun if you are interested in eco dyeing. Come if you have fabric or a piece of clothing you’d like to upcycle and make new. I use dyed fabrics, yarn, and threads for clothing, quilts, knitting/crocheting and even patches for mending.
Please bring clean fabric, a piece of clothing (like a blouse/shirt), yarn or
thread for the dye pot. Bring ONLY natural fibers - cotton, silk, linen, hemp
or wool. **Synthetic fibers (polyester, spandex, etc.) do not take natural
dyes.
Come and join in a community dye pot. I will have two dye pots available
for dyeing. One pot will be a Marigold dye pot from my gardens. The
second dye pot will depend on what’s in bloom.
