Class Description:
I constantly hear the uttered phrase, “I can’t draw,” even from other artists. That may be true, but, you can learn to draw. While some people have innate talent, or the “eye,” most drawing skills (and confidence) can be attained by training and practice!
Drawing skills are the foundation to almost all art media, and many crafts. If you’ve always been afraid to pick up the pencil to begin drawing, or are an established artist who needs to hone your skills, this class can be a vital resource for you.
During our four-week session, we will cover observational skills (or “how to see”), line and shape, light and shadow (value), techniques, materials, composition, and perspective.
Together, we will produce a still life, a figure drawing, and an outdoor scene. Most importantly, you will have fun and build your confidence while creating art with this simplest and purest—yet often most intimidating—of all media.
The instructor will work with the group and with each student at their own skill level. We will primarily use pencils of various grades, but may tackle some charcoal or ink in the final class. All materials will be supplied, so just come with an open mind and desire to learn.
