We'll meet, hike, and see what we discover along the trail near the Discovery Center. Endless possibilities - butterflies, birds, woodland plants, bugs galore, the river... the woods are full of amazing finds.
KOO will have an assortment of explorer things like hand lenses, insect catch nets, bug catching bottles, and so on for you to use.
We're happy to do this hike with the Discovery Center! And we're working on a theme with the Center's Education Director - we'll add that detail later.
As usual for KOO,
- Our emphasis is activities for young kids birth to eight years, with older siblings and other family very welcome. Parents/ caregivers, you are with your kids throughout the activities.
- No charge.
- We go rain or shine, so dress for the weather and conditions that day. In case of very extreme storms/ weather, we'll post any cancelation on this event page.
- We take a kid pace, sometimes fast and sometimes slow - it depends on what we encounter! Sometimes you have to stop and really look closely at something very neat.
For this event
- The paths up to and around the Center are improved and smooth going for strollers and other wheeled transportation. The trails into the forest are natural surfaces like dirt and gravel, sometimes irregular, occasional tree roots - best for walking.
- We'll provide a trail snack, and water will be available. Please bring your own water bottles.
- There are (very nice) rest rooms at the Discovery Center and the Headquarters Building.
- Once you pull in at the HQ building, the Discovery Center is just behind. There will be KOO signs to parking and to the Center where we'll meet.
- We'll also do a hands-on activity for the kids to use on the hike and something to take home.
