About this Event

Join us on Wednesday, August 20, from 6-7 pm at the Forsyth County Public Library for a conversation on local environmental justice with the Piedmont Environmental Alliance (PEA) and Bookmarks. This is a free event and all our welcome!


This conversation is a collaboration with PEA and the Bookmarks' Book with Purpose summer initiation which is around the book The Sum of Us by Heather McGhee. Click here to learn more about the program.

Panelists

Crystal Dixon (she/her)

Professor Crystal T. Dixon is an Associate Professor of the Practice in the Environment and Sustainability Studies Programs at Wake Forest University. Professor Dixon currently serves as a Faculty Fellow for the Mellon Foundation for the Environment and Epistemic Justice Initiative. Her international research and scholarship explores the intersection of environmental racism, sustainability, and public health in the U.S and the Caribbean. Dixon has contributed to research funded by the National Institutes of Health, NASA, and has co-authored several publications. She currently serves as the Chair of CleanAIRE NC Board of Directors where she advocates for health equity and environmental justice.


Will Hendrick (he/him)

As Environmental Justice Director, Will works to connect impacted community members and organizations with decision-makers. Before joining NC Conservation Network, Will worked for Waterkeeper Alliance, the Southern Environmental Law Center, and the NC Department of Environment and Natural Resources. In his free time, Will enjoys kayaking, hiking, and making music. Will has been with NC Conservation Network since 2021.


José Saucedo (he/him)

José Saucedo is a passionate community advocate, who joined PowerUp NC in March 2021. Currently, he serves as a Lead Community Organizer, where he educates and organizes communities to empower them to effect positive change. A resident of Winston-Salem, José holds a degree in Communications and Media Studies from Winston-Salem State University.


Aidan Loretz (they/she)

Aidan is a Community Organizer working with Haw River Assembly & 7 Directions of Service. In 2024, she graduated from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, earning a BA in Sociology with a concentration in Communication Studies. Inspired by their passion for education and love of the natural world, Aidan began organizing their community around environmental justice issues and building relationships between local environmental groups. Since graduating, she has lived in Greensboro, NC, and been a part of the No Southeast Supply Enhancement (NoSSEP) campaign in partnership with organizations across the Southeastern United States.
