Come join us at Shady Grove Cemetery, Wood County, 1293 CR 4645, Winnsboro, TX, on Sat., Dec. 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., for our 6th annual “Wreaths Across America 2025” event, including a joint patriotic ceremony and the laying of live fir wreaths on our 111 veterans’ graves. Friends from Pineview Cemetery, Wood County, Winnsboro, Texas, will also join us for the ceremony and then, following the program at Shady Grove, return to Pineview Cemetery, 1990 FM 1647, Winnsboro, TX, to lay wreaths on their 25 veterans’ graves. 2023 was the first year that Pineview Cemetery became a “Wreaths Across America” participating cemetery. The theme for Wreaths Across America 2025 is “Keep Moving Forward,” the last words spoken by Captain Joshua Byers, a fallen soldier who died in Iraq in 2003 due to an IED.
Featured speaker will be Steve Lucas, USMC EOD Lt. Col., Retired, and current Veteran Services Officer (VSO) for Wood County. Colors will be posted by representatives of the Carl E. Azbell American Legion Post 340, Winnsboro, TX, led by Commander Larry Fleishman. Tyler Lenius and duet, Ron and Cathy Lawson, all local musicians, will share patriotic songs. A somber reading of the veterans’ names will be held just prior to the laying of the wreaths, followed by the playing of “Taps.” Families of veterans and other volunteers are welcome to attend the ceremony and help lay wreaths as well!
