Merchants Corner is a hub of Indigenous culture and community. Last year we gathered there for Reading and Beading; this year we’re back for Reading and Eating! We’ll welcome you with hot tea and some tasty treats!
Wild rice, or manomin, is a staple food for many Indigenous nations, and is the focus of a new collection of essays, Manomin: Caring for Ecosystems and Each Other. We are so pleased to welcome Kathi Avery Kinew, one of the contributors, who will share traditional Anishinaabe teachings about manomin and the environment.
Jennifer Ballantyne, a rising star and Executive Chef of the Manoomin restaurant at the Winnipeg Airport, will offer her insights about Indigenous food practices and food security.
Sunday, September 21, 11:00am
Merchants Corner, 541 Selkirk Avenue
