Luminescence: Queer Filipinx/o/a Group Exhibit - Opening Reception

Join us for the opening of Luminescence, a showcase of Filipinx/o/a visual brilliance, curated by Earl Rina, in collaboration with Bahaghari Pride MB Inc.

Luminescence is a community-rooted exhibition that honours the creativity, resilience, and cultural richness of 2SLGBTQI+ Filipino/a/x artists and their allies. Curated by Earl Rina in collaboration with Bahaghari Pride MB and Matter Manitoba, the exhibition showcases the bold artistic voices of five artists: Daezerae Gil, Deonys the Villain, Earl Rina, Jhapes, and Paperkat. Each of these artists offers a deeply personal lens into the layers of identity and lived experience that define queer Filipino/a/x communities in Manitoba.

The works in this exhibition explore a range of powerful themes. Emotional symbolism and layered narratives draw from personal experiences, transforming them into vibrant visual stories. Other pieces explore identity through introspective expression and cultural reflection, navigating the intersections of queerness, diaspora, and self. Some embrace craft and care as sources of healing, inviting viewers into moments of warmth, joy, and tenderness. Others look to the natural world to examine queer presence in fluidity, cycles, and rooted transformation. Together, these artworks form a collective declaration, one that is vulnerable, celebratory, and defiantly proud.
