📚 An Afternoon With an Author – Featuring Gillian Andrews
🗓 Saturday, October 4th | 🕑 2:00 PM | 📍 The Parlour
🎟 Admission by donation
Join us for this month’s An Afternoon With an Author as we welcome celebrated local author Gillian Andrews, who will be reading from and discussing her powerful new novel, The Healing Stones — a poignant story of loss, resilience, and quiet transformation set in 1950s coastal Nova Scotia.
At the heart of The Healing Stones is Mara Ellis, a woman in her early thirties who, after suffering multiple miscarriages and the heartbreak of being unable to bear children, retreats to her late grandmother’s seaside cottage in search of solitude and clarity. There, among the rocky shoreline and salt air, she discovers a collection of smooth, mysterious stones that local legend claims have healing properties. As Mara reconnects with her family’s past and the rhythms of the natural world, she begins to uncover long-buried secrets—and unexpected sources of strength.
With lyrical prose and deeply felt emotion, Andrews explores themes of grief, womanhood, and the quiet courage it takes to rebuild a life. This is a novel that speaks to the often-unspoken experiences of women, and the ways in which place, memory, and myth can help us carry the weight of loss.
Gillian Andrews is also the author of Gift of the Loon and River of the Stick Wavers, both widely praised for their vivid storytelling and emotional depth. Her work often focuses on women’s inner lives, rural communities, and the complex relationships between generations.
