SPECTRAL CINEMA PRESENTS: ICE (1970)
Collectively produced by the Newsreel Group, Robert Kramer’s fiercely political observational thriller unfolds in gritty, Lindsay-era New York City, following a revolutionary cell as it plans guerrilla attacks against a fascistic American regime. Using a fictional war with Mexico as an allegory for Vietnam, ICE blurs the lines between documentary and fiction, employing a raw, improvisational style that captures the urgency of radical politics in motion. Kramer’s documentary-style lens probes the group’s internal tensions, ideological conflicts, and personal struggles through extended political debates and naturalistic performances. Shot in stark 16mm black-and-white, ICE transforms the city into an alien, melancholy battleground - evoking the dystopian atmosphere of Godard's ALPHAVILLE - where revolutionary hope and creeping paranoia collide.
Spectral Cinema is proud to continue its partnership with the Gap Theatre by presenting this rare screening of a vital, hard-to-see classic that feels both urgently of its moment and eerily timeless.
Tickets: $10 per person.
Showtime: 7:30pm.
Doors open 30 minutes before showtime.
Tickets are available at thegaptheatre.com and at the door.
